No! The fact is that evolution has hindered the advancement of medicine and science in general. That makes sense, if you base your research on a fiction (evolution), your research, and the practices that result from it, will not be very good.
"Darwinism misled researchers into developing a harmful set of treatment techniques for certain back conditions. These therapies were based on the idea that humans at one time walked on all fours and that back problems were produced primarily by complications resulting from humans’ newly evolved upright posture." - Jerry Bergman
"Although it used to be believed that the appendix had no function and was an evolutionary relic, this is no longer thought to be true. Its greatest importance is the immunological function it provides in the developing embryo, but it continues to function even in the adult … . The function of the appendix appears to be to expose circulating immune cells to antigens from the bacteria and other organisms living in your gut. That helps your immune system to tell friend from foe and stops it from launching damaging attacks on bacteria that happily co-exist with you." - Kathleen James (New Scientist 177, February 2003)
When I was a child it was very common to have your tonsils surgically removed. They were thought to be evolutionary left-overs. It turns out that's not the case: "Doctors once thought tonsils were simply useless evolutionary leftovers and took them out thinking that it could do no harm. Today there is considerable evidence that there are more troubles in the upper respiratory tract after tonsil removal than before, and doctors generally agree that simple enlargement of tonsils is hardly an indication for surgery." [emphasis in original] - - J.D. Ratcliff (Your Body and How it Works, Delacorte, New York, p. 137, 1975)
"History has shown the foolishness of rushing to the ‘vestigial’ argument. Well over 100 organs in the human body were pronounced as useless left-overs of evolution at one stage, but the list has shrunk to almost zero as research has revealed the functions." - Don Batten
"The design of drugs can no more depend on the truth of the naturalistic transformist hypothesis (i.e. ‘goo-to-you’ evolution) than it would depend upon the cow flying over the moon." - Dr. Carl Wieland
"In fact, over the last 100 years, almost all of biology has proceeded independent of evolution, except evolutionary biology itself." - Dr. Marc Kirschner, chair of the Department of Systems Biology, Harvard Medical School (Boston Globe, October 23, 2005)
"Evolution’s dual myths of random causation and the king gene have not been good for biology, and they also have done damage elsewhere. In the area of human health, our cultural uptake of evolutionary ideas contributed to the dangerously flawed notion that health is a random affair. True, genetic mutations are capable of producing all kinds of diseases, but the vast majority of health issues stem from, or can be alleviated by, lifestyle and workplace decisions. In a great many cases, you are not what your genes say you are, but what you eat and how you live. Diet, stress, exercise, and exposure to toxins play an enormous role in determining your health history.
"That shouldn’t be a surprise. But too often it is completely missed or underemphasized, and an unfortunate example of this flawed evolutionary influence is our health care system and health insurance. Our skyrocketing costs could be reduced by half or even an order of magnitude with proper education and personal decisions." - Cornnelius Hunter
